Software Product Engineer



Your Background/Experience

  • Degree in relevant Computer Sciences Degree or equivalent

Or

  • At least 1 year software development experience (or knowledge base equivalence)

MDS use a number of programming languages for the development of software, classified as either Major Development Programming Languages (MaDPLs) or Minor Development Programming Languages (MiDPLs).

  • You will have knowledge of at least 1 of the follwoing MaDPLs
  • Java
  • Synon\RPG 400\CL for IBM iSeries

Ideally, you will have knowledge of at least 1 of the following MiDPLs

  • HTML
  • VB (or derivatives e.g. VBA)
  • Python
  • Perl
  • Flex
  • PHP
  • SQL
  • XML
  • JavaScript
  • Ant
  • JACL
  • WSDL
  • JSP
  • JDE
  • RPG ILE\RPG 4

You Report to:

Software Production Team Leader


Your Job Purpose

  • To provide thorough problem analysis of production systems
  • To develop software to a predefined specification
  • To provide on site customer support. The level of responsibility for this activity is dependant on experience
  • To deploy software systems to production environments at customer sites.  The level of responsibility for this activity is dependant on experience

Your Responsibilities:

Responsibilities within the role will vary depending on the experience levels of the candidate. The primary responsibilities are:

  • To perform technical analysis on production software with a view to isolating  faults and identifying suitable low impact solutions
  • To liaise in a professional manner with customers to assist in problem resolution
  • To ensure that any fixes issued to customers have been thoroughly tested and accepted by customers.
  • To ensure that fault analysis, diagnosis and resolution adheres to the various Service Level Agreements governing MDS’s relationships with its different customers.
  • To provide on site fault analysis, diagnosis and resolution
  • To perform the tasks of Coding, Unit Test and Integration Test as defined within the Software Development Guidelines to a satisfactory level of quality.
  • To participate in technical software design. The level of responsibility for this activity is dependant on experience
  • To participate in the specification of software solutions for our customers. The level of responsibility  for this activity is dependant on experience
  • To participate in the deployment of entire software systems onto production environments. Due to the business critical nature of such deployments this may necessitate working outside of standard MDS working hours. The level of responsibility  for this activity is dependant on experience.

Location

Limerick (Republic of Ireland) or Warrington (UK)


Salary Range:

Negotiable based on experience and exposure to the relevant technologies
